MANILA — Two of the Philippines' bets in the 2024 Olympic Games have started to give back to the country following their successful stint in Paris.

Filipina gymnasts Aleah Finnegan and Emma Malabuyo took the stage earlier in the ‘Yes Girl' Women's Artistic Gymnastics Training Clinic, and joining them at the MVPSF Gymnastics Center in Intramuros, Manila were over 80 young hopefuls.

"Our whole reason to come to the Philippines was for this clinic. I'm really thankful to the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) for this opportunity and being able to showcase and spend time with over 80 gymnasts here," said Finnegan on the sidelines of the event.

Finnegan and Malabuyo, as well as Levi Ruvivar, fell short of advancing into the medal rounds of their sport in Paris.

The former was at 47th at the end of the subdivision of their event, while the latter was at 41st.

"I think that it was my best showcase, but it can be a little disappointing," Aleah said.

"You worked your whole life for a total of five minutes, and unfortunately, things don't go your way sometimes."

Despite this, Finnegan is looking on the bright side and instead is relishing the stint that she and her fellow Filipinas had there.

"But I'm choosing to see the successful run that we had, I'm choosing to see how amazing it was. We had three women athletes in the gymnastics category," she continued.

Moving forward, Finnegan, who still made history for the country as she was the first Filipina gymnast who qualified for the Summer Games in 60 years, is now hoping to have inspired future generations due to her as well as Malabuyo's and Ruvivar's campaign in France.

"It's really about getting them started and letting them have a good foundation in gymnastics. Hopefully, they continue even after we leave," said Aleah.

Both Finnegan and Malabuyo are expected to continue with the second and last day of the camp tomorrow, August 18, at the same venue.
