MANILA — The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) on Friday said it is targeting to join the gymnastics team competition in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles and would recruit British gymnast Jake Jarman to compete under the Philippine flag.

The Olympics holds individual and team competitions for artistic gymnastics.

"It's highly possible [that we would be recruiting Jarman]," said POC head of pre-Olympic training camp Nikko Huelgas, citing his conversation with Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) president Cynthia Carrion.

Huelgas said that aside from Jarman, the Philippines is also eyeing to recruit two other gymnasts to form the team that would compete in the gymnastics team competition.

"And if I'm not mistaken, do not quote her (Carrion), we're not just targeting Jake but we're also targeting probably two more to pull off the first ever team competitions in gymnastics. I'm confident that president Cynthia can make this happen," Huelgas said.

Jarman, who is half-Filipino, caught the attention of many Filipino fans during his stint at the Paris Olympics, where he competed against two-time gold medalist Carlos Yulo.

Carrion herself confirmed reaching out to Jarman and British officials, who said they will only release the athlete upon the approval of his parents.

Jarman had previously said he is likely to stick with the Great Britain team for the 2028 LA Olympics.
