MANILA (UPDATED) -- The grandmother of Carlos Yulo said she was happy to see her grandson during the heroes' grand homecoming parade in Manila.

Angelita Poquiz said she decided at the last minute to watch the parade, after being convinced by her sisters.

She watched alongside her sisters, grandchildren and other relatives along Quirino Avenue, near Leveriza Street, where the Yulo family lives.

Angelita said she was glad to see her grandson while everyone cheered.

Nakita daw niya yung kapatid kong isa yung babae," she added.

She said one of her relatives even showed Caloy the standee made for him.

Yulo's grandfather, Rodrigo Frisco, earlier said they opted not to watch the parade, where the Filipino gymnast was feted together with other Olympians after a historic campaign in the Paris Games.

Kaya naisip namin kahit diyan sa float niya, sa parada niya 'di narin kami pupunta," he said.

Poquiz said that Carlos is welcome to visit their Manila residence following his historic feat in the Paris Olympics.

"Nakikita namin siya pero hindi kami nagkakausap," she said.

Should the "Golden Boy" pay them a visit, Poquiz says they will cook caldereta and adobo for the gymnast.

"Hindi pa kami nagpaplano," she said.

Yulo is the toast of the town after a stunning performance in Paris, where he won two gold medals in vault and floor exercise in men's artistic gymnastics. Meanwhile, boxers Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petecio took home bronzes to complete the Philippines' best Olympics campaign ever. -- with a report from Job Manahan, ABS-CBN News
