Nesthy Petecio is through to the next round of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games' women's boxing 57kg division.

The 5-foot-2 Filipina moved past India's Jaismine Lamboria to keep her bid for a medal finish intact, but according to Petecio, her victory was more than just overcoming another opponent.

The Tokyo 2021 silver medalist explained what strategy she and her coaches applied to earn the triumph.

"We would need to get to the range where I could hit her back so I could get counterpunches. We stuck to that game plan from the first round to the third. Then in the third, I knew that I was leading so I needed to move and dance," she said.

"First round pa lang, steady lang ako, and then more punches pa in the third round. In the third round, footwork, and laro-laro," Petecio emphasized.

But aside from this, what also was crucial was the support that she got from the Filipinos who were in attendance.

Sobrang nagpapasalamat ako," Petecio said.

Ako, pag lumaban talaga ako sa ibang bansa, hindi pangalan ko yung dala-dala ko kundi yung nakatatak sa dibdib ko," she continued, while also giving the Philippine Coast Guard, where she is serving as Petty Officer Second Class (PO2), some love.

Salamat!" said Petecio.

Petecio will be back in action on August 2 against a home bet -- Amina Zidani -- in the round-of-16. Zidani, seeded third in the weight class, drew a bye in the round-of-32. -- with a report from Dyan Castillejo, POC Media/ABS-CBN News
