Two days before the start of the Paris Olympics, Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Bambol Tolentino is optimistic the Philippines will perform well.

Tolentino and POC Sec. Gen. Atty. Wharton Chan arrived in Paris on Tuesday evening and went directly to the Athletes' Village to check on the Philippine athletes who have moved in.

"So this is it. Dito na kami uli. And we are excited for the parade. Definitely, we will surpass the Tokyo medal haul, pray for us mga Kababayan pray for us. Sigurado na ito," said Tolentino.

The headquarters for National Olympic Committee officials was extremely busy, with many trying to get accreditation and information for the much-awaited Opening Ceremony for the Paris Games.

For Tolentino and Chan, there were several items to take care of.

"Dami pang problem specially the visa, iyong ibang officials natin wala pang visa nare-release, tapos bagyo pa dun sarado 'yung embassy, so iyong iba rebook dahil ngayon ang flight 'di pa released ang visa, may coaches, officials, " said Tolentino.

"From the arrival last night, we went directly to the Olympic Village to check on athletes' status, luckily some of the issues were already resolved last night," added Chan.

Volunteers for the games and delegation were busy attending to all kinds of needs.

"Yes, we have been answering all kinds of questions from everyone. The questions are always about the accreditation and the opening ceremony-- How to get there? How to get tickets? That takes a lot of time. We are organizing the Assistance program," said one volunteer, a Parisian who moved back from Canada to help.

The Main Press Centre is filling up with journalists from all over the globe covering the much-awaited Paris Games.

"First of all, it's the city--the main character. Paris is beautiful. Then we have this new kind of opening ceremony which will be a big headache," said Giorgio Scala, a journalist from Italy.

The streets of Paris seemed very calm. Roadblocks have been set up and vehicles are rerouted. Security has been tightened, especially by the Seine River where the parade boats will carry each delegation on a 6-kilometer run down the famous RIVER passing some of the most known landmarks in the City like the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Louvre and many more.

Police are on alert. Stands on both sides of the river have been set up. There will be many chances for thousands to watch the opening ceremony parade. Many tickets for the Opening ceremony stands have been sold, some as high as $3000.

Other venues are free. Thousands can watch through giant LED screens placed around the city.

Filipinos were among those excited to cheer for all the athletes.

"I am very very excited Filipino pride, of course. Living in this city and the Olympics happening-- is very very exciting. There are a lot of Fan Areas where there are LED screens so it will be like a big picnic with a live broadcast," said Sophia Ayson a resident of Paris.

There are 22 Filipinos at the OPENING floats. The opening ceremony is on July 26 and games open on July 27.
