Veteran sports journalist Chino Trinidad dies at 56

Manolo Chino Trinidad Facebook. MANILA (UPDATED) — Veteran sports journalist Chino Trinidad has passed away, his daughter confirmed to ABS-CBN News on Sunday. 


Trinidad’s daughter said he passed away Saturday night due to 'massive heart attack' while he was on his way to a meeting. 


The veteran sports journalist was 56 years old. 


The family released a statement on Trinidad’s passing. 


“Chino Trinidad, a passionate member of the media and sports community, has passed away last night, July 13, 2024. Known to many through his storytelling, he never stopped sharing the greatness of Filipinos. He was a loving husband and a supportive father. He will be truly missed,” the statement read.

In a statement, the Private Schools  Athletic Association expressed condolences over Trinidad’s passing.


“His booming voice,  compassionate words, and cheerful personality will be missed,” it said.


“May the circumstances of his passing remind Filipino athletes of the crucial neccessity of good heart health, nutrition, and exercise,” it also said.


The association said it will offer a moment of silence for Trinidad at the PRISAA National Games, which will be held in Legazpi City, Albay from July 20-26.


Trinidad was best known for being a sports correspondent and analyst, starting in radio until he shifted to television.

Trinidad also served as commissioner of the Philippine Basketball League from 2000-2010 and was a consultant for the Pilipinas Super Cup. 


He was among candidates for Games and Amusements Board (GAB) Chairman in 2022. 


Last May, Trinidad was appointed as commissioner of professional billiards league, the Sharks Billiard Association.
