MANILA -- Young Filipino fighter Jhanlo Mark Sangiao is keeping a close watch on Mongolia's Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu in his quest to regain his winning ways in ONE Championship.

Baatarkhuu had given Sangiao his first loss in August 2023, as the Team Lakay standout was forced to tap in the second round of their ONE Fight Night 13 showdown.

"Honestly, I wasn't fully prepared for that fight," the 21-year-old Sangiao admitted in an appearance on Team Lakay's "Table Talks" show.

"Physically, I feel like I was 100% ready," he explained. "But mentally, there were just too many distractions. Unfortunately, things didn't end up well for me, but you know, it's not the end."

As he looks back on the bout, Sangiao believes he may have given up too quickly. He had some big moments in the first round, hurting the tough Mongolian on several occasions. But he failed to capitalize on his hot start, and Baatarkhuu seized the momentum in the second round.

"After that fight, I really internalized and looked back on the mistakes I had during the fight. I felt like I gave up too easily," said Sangiao.

"That kimura wasn't fully extended but I don't know what was going through my head. In the first round I really had him. I think I was the first person to hurt him," he added.

Sangiao found himself in uncharted waters in the bout, as he was unable to impose his will on Baatarkhuu the way he did against his previous opponents.

"My head was in the game but, honestly, in my mind I was thinking, 'Why am I in this position? How did I end up here?' Mostly I'm always on the top and in control, and all of a sudden I was on the bottom and being controlled," the young Filipino fighter recalled.

"I think it was a mix of fatigue and his pressure, but it is what it is."

Now that he knows what it's like to lose and have to strategize his way back to winning ways, he's eyeing another showdown with Baatarkhuu, and this time he promises to come out tougher and stronger.

"Props to Enkh-Orgil," he said, "But I will come back and get back at you."
