The Philippine men's national football team could not end their campaign in the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers on a triumphant note.

Indonesia secured a 2-0 win over the Filipinos on Tuesday night at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta to advance to the next round of World Cup qualifiers.

Indonesia also clinched their place in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia with the win after finishing second in Group F behind Iraq.

Thom Haye broke the ice in the 32nd minute before Rizky Ridho doubled Indonesia's advantage in the 56th minute to seal full points for the hosts.

The Philippines finished the qualifiers with just a point to show in six matches, courtesy of a 1-1 draw against Indonesia in November at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

The Filipinos bowed out of contention for a place in the next FIFA World Cup after a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Vietnam at the Mỹ Đình National Stadium in Hanoi last week.

They will still play in the third round of the qualifiers for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.
