It was announced on June 9 that Pacquiao will fight Suzuki in a three-round boxing match on July 28 in Saitama, north of Tokyo.

The Philippine Olympic Committee earlier sent a special request to allow Pacquiao to take part in the upcoming Paris Olympics, but it was denied by the International Olympic Committee due to the age limit rule of 40 for Olympic boxers.
