MANILA – The Philippine national volleyball teams are now called "Alas Pilipinas," as revealed by the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) during the announcement of its partnership with Cignal on Wednesday in Mandaluyong City.

Headlining the newly-branded women's squad, as announced by the governing body for volleyball, are Premier Volleyball League (PVL) star hitters Eya Laure and Sisi Rondina, while Japan-based setter Jia de Guzman will be steering the offense as the Nationals join in the upcoming AVC Challenge Cup for Women on May 22 to 29 at the historic Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

Also joining the squad despite the short preparation are PVL aces Vanie Gandler, Dawn Catindig, Cherry Nunag, Dell Palomata, Fifi Sharma, Jen Nierva, and Faith Nisperos.

UAAP standouts Angel Canino, Julia Coronel, and recent Best Middle Blocker awardee Thea Gagate of De La Salle University, and University of the East's Casiey Dongallo are also in Alas Pilipinas' roster.

The PNVF is also "hopeful" that after UAAP Finals, National University stars Bella Belen and Alyssa Solomon would also don national colors.

They just won collegiate league awards -- Belen is Season 86 MVP and first Best Outside Spiker while Solomon is Best Opposite Spiker.

For the men's side, here are the players who committed for Alas: Marck Espejo, Bryan Bagunas, Josh Ybanez, Menard Guerrero, Vince Patrick Lorenzo, Jade Disquitado, Adrian Villados, Kim Malabunga, John Paul Bugaoan, Noel Kampton, Nico Almendraz, Jau Umandal, Mark Calado, Owa Retamar, Sherwin Umandal, Rwenzmel Taguibolos, Leo Ordiales, Choi Diao, Joseph Bello, Lloyd Josafat, and Louie Ramirez.

For PNVF president Tats Suzara, this signifies the unification of branding across men's and women's volleyball teams.

“We’re delighted to kickstart this new chapter for Philippine volleyball by unveiling Alas Pilipinas, our new names for the national teams both in indoor and beach and for both men and women. We’re humbled with the outpouring support that volleyball has garnered over the past few years and we believe that it’s high time for us to rally on one singular name for our national teams,” said Suzara.
