MANILA Kyle Negrito arguably has the best mentor that a setter can have.

Now Creamline's go-to playmaker, Negrito rose to the occasion after PVL 8-time Best Setter Jia de Guzman left the Philippines to play for Denso Airybees in Japan's V.League.

Proving that she is ready to step out of the shadows of the decorated playmaker, Negrito has now steered Creamline to two-straight All-Filipino championships after De Guzman's departure.

And as icing on the cake, Negrito recently won the Best Setter award in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference--but she said that it was just a bonus as they took home the main prize on Sunday at the Big Dome.

"Mas importante na nakuha namin ‘yung championship. ‘Yung award po, bonus na lang. Maraming salamat po sa pag-acknowledge and thank you," Negrito told reporters after their Game 2 victory, sweeping their Finals series against Choco Mucho.

Negrito also revealed that she learns from what she calls "GOAT" or in urban dictionary, "Greatest Of All Time": her ate Jia de Guzman.

The former FEU standout added that Creamline is not looking for "another Jia."

"Kami ni Ate Jia, lagi po kaming nag-uusap and grabe ‘yung guidance niya rin sa akin. 'Yung team ko naman, ‘yung coaches, kumbaga hindi naman hinahanap si Ate Jia sa 'kin," the playmaker said.

"I'm me, and Ate Jia is Ate Jia, and Ate Jia is the GOAT," Negrito said. "Kung ano ang kaya kong gawin, ‘yung lang po ‘yung trinaining namin."

In a separate interview, De Guzman affirmed that Negrito has been looking for her guidance.

"Kyle has always worked hard even when I was playing with Creamline before. She does her extra work, she comes early to training, she does her extra scouting, she asks whenever she wants to improve something so she’s reaping everything she worked hard for," De Guzman said about Negrito.
