Photo from UAAP Media." src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1712674756431IMG_3401.jpeg" class="fr-fil fr-dib"/><figcaption>DLSU star Angel Canino in attendance against their game against the UE Lady Warriors. <em>Photo from UAAP Media.</em></figcaption></figure></div><p>MANILA — De La Salle University won its second game without team star Angel Canino earlier on Tuesday.</p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/sports/2024/4/9/uaap-la-salle-avoids-upset-loss-to-ue-in-five-set-battle-1904"><strong>READ: </strong></a><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/sports/2024/4/9/uaap-la-salle-avoids-upset-loss-to-ue-in-five-set-battle-1904"><strong>La Salle avoids upset loss to UE in five-set battle</strong></a></div><p>The Taft-based squad propelled to No.1 in the team standings and have moved up to 9-1, but they needed to overcome the up-and-coming University of the East in five long sets.</p><p>This, according to deputy coach Noel Orcullo, is a result of the Lady Archers still learning and adjusting to play without Canino who is still dealing with a right arm injury. </p><p>“Siguro as of now, talagang hinahanap pa rin nila si Angel,” Orcullo told reporters of his squad who is also coming off a hard-earned four-setter over the UP Fighting Maroons before this victory.</p><p>“Nandyan naman yung presence niya, pero yung presence niya talaga sa loob yung talagang hinahanap ng mga temmates niya dahil si Angel, bilang isang leader, nahihila sila ni Angel doon sa kailangang i-push nila yung sarili nila,” he continued.</p><p>Unfortunately for the Lasallians, the 5-foot-11 star’s return remains uncertain.</p><p>Orcullo gave an update on the situation of Canino, revealing that her status as of present is still day-to-day.</p><p>“Dun nga sa last interview sa’kin, she was monitored day-by-day. Hopefully, mag-heal na agad. She’s starting [to make progress] naman na, nagte-therapy na siya, yung kamay niya,” he explained.</p><p>Coach Noel also challenged the healthy Lady Spikers to step up be leaders on their own.</p><p>“Ngayon, mangilan-ngilan na lang &#x27;yung nagiging leader sa court. Sabi ko nga last night, hindi lang isa ang dapat maging leader, hindi lang pwedeng yung captain ball.”</p><p>“Dapat lahat tayo maging leader sa loob. Hindi pu-pwedeng isa lang yung magiging leader sa inyo. Maging leader kayo sa sarili niyo.”</p><p>But other than the former ROTY-MVP’s absence, Orcullo also offered other issues that their players must fix.</p><p>“Nakukulangan pa rin kami,” he said. “Although ginagapang pa ‘rin nila para manalo, kulang pa. Hopefully, i-push pa nila yung sarili nila sa limit na hanggang saan yung kakayanin nila sa pressure na nararamdaman nila sa sarili nang nawala si Angel.”</p><p>“Hopefully mai-push pa nila yung sarili nila,” he added.</p><p>On the other hand, he also wants La Salle to hold their ground in their next games, especially since they are still in a good position to clinch a twice-to-beat advantage.</p><p>“Yun din naman yung sinasabi namin sa kanila, na hindi magiging madali itong pinagdadaanan namin. Kailangan nilang tiyagain ‘to na makuha yung twice to beat,” said Orcullo.</p><p>Orcullo acknowledges that the road will get even tougher for the Lady Archers as they still have the NU Lady Bulldogs and the UST Golden Tigresses in their last set of games, which is why for him, DLSU must push even more.</p><div><br/></div><p>“Hangga’t maari, push pa sa training kung ano yung ginagawa namin, ‘yung sistemang kailangang gawin,” he said.</p><p>“At the same time kung ano yung plan sa game, inaaral naman nila ‘yung mga kalaban eh so dapat magtuloy-tuloy lang,” he concluded.</p><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO:</strong></div><div><strong><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable" frameBorder="0" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Z4elEZOqaks?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" width="640"></iframe></strong></div>
