MANILA — The De La Salle Lady Spikers are a win away from clinching a twice-to-beat advantage as they enter the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball Final Four.

La Salle did so after they defeated the Ateneo Blue Eagles in convincing fashion at the Araneta Coliseum, and among those who stepped up for the Angel Canino-less squad was Shevana Laput.

The 6-foot-2 young star poured in 15 points on 12 attacks and three blocks as she continued to pace the Taft-based squad who were competing without Canino for the fifth straight game.

Laput has been La Salle's No. 1 option since Canino went down with a hand injury, but the towering spiker downplayed her production and said that she was just doing her job.

"I'm just glad that I can contribute to the team," said Laput, who has been putting up 20.4 points and 1.8 digs in their last five games, while also giving credit to her teammates.

"Mostly, I'm proud of my teammates because if you look at the stats, you can see that everyone did something. I'm just glad that we're working together as a team and going into this last game."

"I'm really glad to see how we're performing and we're very excited to show everybody that we're the Lady Spikers and this is how we play," she continued.

The sophomore spiker also emphasized that she is just stepping up in the absence of her batchmate Canino.

"Without Angel, with her out, I need to step up for her and do justice for her. Personally, I'm playing for the both of us right now. I always say to her: this is also yours."

And while she has been the go-to-scorer of the Lady Spikers in their previous games, Laput believes that she is only scratching the surface of her full potential for the Final Four-bound team.

"You know, I'm just glad there's progress," said Laput, a late-bloomer in volleyball.

"I always think to myself that I'm a work in progress. This isn't my best. I know I can do so much more, but I'm glad right now I'm contributing to the team," she said.
