Since 2008, the Golden State Warriors have proudly hosted Filipino Heritage Nights every season.

From Filipino folk dance to commemorative heritage night shirts, Pinoy pride was showcased throughout the game.

Ieanna Cruz, the Filipino-American resident DJ of the Warriors, said the event means a lot to them as it helps advance Filipino representation.

“It's everything to us,” said Cruz, who is also known as DJ Umami. “It's like seeing our people out on the park performing at halftime. There's so much pride and so much joy and seeing how many Warriors fans are Filipino.”

Fans were also able to get their hands on modern Filipino food at the Sarap Shop.

For over a decade now – Senor Sisig has been a popular Filipino food truck that has expanded to its own stores all across the Bay Area.

On Filipino Heritage Night, it announced the opening of its latest brick and mortar at the Chase Center next year.

“It’s that partnership with the Warriors and to be able to be aligned with that,” said Senor Sisig co-founder and CEO Evan Kidera. “We feel like there's a lot of synergy there with our brands just for the fans as well.”

Among the attendees of the heritage night was Raymond Townsend, the first Fil-Am to play in the NBA.

He said he is keeping the faith that prodigy Kai Sotto will be the first pure-blooded Filipino to play in the league.

“I just think Kai’s got such an upside,” said Townsend. “I think he has to get a little bit more physical, get used to playing with physicality in the NBA but if you talk about pure talent size with athletic ability, Kai Sotto is going to get here.”

Sotto has been putting up numbers in Kapan and for the Philippine men’s national basketball team, the Gilas Pilipinas.

Meanwhile, during the heritage night game, the Warriors were defeated by the Spurs, 122 to 117.
