The Recto-based squad has managed to stay competitive in their eight games so far this year — with the Lady Warriors even already being able to equal their number of wins in Season 85 and 86 as they now stand at 2-6 — and playing a huge role in this is Casiey Dongallo.

The 5-foot-8 young star has been on a roll in her first year in the UAAP and is putting up 23.3 points, 8.9 digs, and 4.9 receptions per game, and Dongallo shared that her motivation is to start a change in how UE’s volleyball program is looked upon.

“Despite na ang dami na po naming losses, para sakin, ginawa ko yung inspiration,” said Casiey who finished with 28 points, six digs, and 4 receptions in their win against Adamson University on Saturday.

“Yung iba kasi sinasabi na ‘UE lang yan’ so parang alam niya na. Gusto ko lang po i-prove na UE is something, UE is new, kaya sobrang halaga po talaga ng game na ‘to kaya emotional po,” she added.

Her stellar play, however, has not only allowed UE to turn some heads this season. It was also impressive enough to stir speculations that she might represent another school after the end of this year.

“To answer that question po I really don’t have a plan on leaving UE,” revealed Dongallo. “Kasi nagsimula na po kami, nakikita naman yung progress ng UE so bakit aalisan ko pa?”

This was not the first time that a young star from UE’s athletics program has been linked to transfer to another institution.

Just last November, former UE Red Warriors star Noy Remogat was also in a similar position as he was performing greatly for Jack Santiago’s squad during the men’s basketball tournament.

Remogat addressed these speculations and reaffirmed his commitment to UE, but it only took two months for him to reverse these statements as he eventually made the decision to transfer to the UP Fighting Maroons.

Good thing for the UE community, acting head coach Dr. Obet Vital reassured that Dongallo will stay in Recto.

“I know there’s lots of posts of her ready in a UST uniform, and talks with management with La Salle and rumors about SGA [Strong Group Athletics] and her,” said Vital. “I just wanna clarify, Strong Group Athletics and Frank Lao are committed to UE and the girls for three years.”

”That’s his commitment. He verified that also, as well as to the girls, that all the UE girls are not going anywhere. As a matter of fact, dadagdagan pa yan next year. I just wanna press on that so that we’re clear. There’s a lot of people who love to make news, they wanna make news, That’s okay na they wanna nagme-make news, but these are the facts,” he continued.

As for Dongallo, her focus for the rest of the season is to win more games for UE.

“Sabi ni doc na sabi ni Director Jude Roque na one more [win]. We’re hoping to win more than one more game para maging masaya naman,” she added.
