MANILA — The UE Lady Warriors opened their UAAP Season 86 campaign with a four-set win over the Ateneo Blue Eagles.

The Recto-based squad has already equaled their win tally in Seasons 84 and 85, and leading them in their statement victory was rookie Casiey Dongallo who scored 27 points.

This was the most-ever by a freshman/rookie in their debut game, but the 18-year-old, California Academy product deflected all the credit to her teammates

“I cannot have 27 points without them,” she told reporters on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

“Hindi nila ako pinabayaan, andoon sila to lift me up,” she added.

Dongallo also admitted that she had rookie jitters heading into the contest, and it was also her teammates that helped her overcome that.

“Yung sa first game, kinakabahan pa po talaga ako,” she said.

“Hina-hype lang po ako ng mga ate ko na: ‘Kaya mo yan. Nanonood sila para sa UE, at siyempre nanonood sila para sayo. So pakita mo kung anong inaabangan nila.’”

And now that she has already finished her first official game in the UAAP, Dongallo said that she is looking forward to facing some of the league’s top teams, one of them being the defending champions De La Salle Lady Spikers.

“Excited po ako sa La Salle. We haven’t played La Salle po eh, kahit sa tune-up, so ‘yun yung pinaka excited ako na makalaro,” she said.

“It will be a lesson for us kung makalaro na namin yung La Salle. Mate-test po namin kung gaano na nag-improve yung UE sa bagong system. Kung ano mang matutunan namin against La Salle, sa training, gagawin namin yun.”

But for now, they will face University of Sto. Tomas. UE will look to continue their uprise on Wednesday, February 21, 4:00 PM at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
