MANILA — The University of the East (UE) will once again face Ateneo de Manila University in a crucial game sans Precious Momowei.

Much like last year, the Red Warriors' star will be serving a suspension in a game against the Blue Eagles, and this was after Momowei was called with two unsportsmanlike fouls in their game against the University of Santo Tomas last Saturday.

"According to league rules, a student-athlete disqualified, thrown out, or ejected from a game for unsportsmanlike behavior is prohibited from participating in the immediately following game," the league said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Momowei received an unsportsmanlike foul (Category 2) at the 5:18 mark of the second quarter of the game. A second unsportsmanlike foul (Category 2) was called at the 5:07 mark of the fourth quarter."

The first one was an inadvertent elbow in the Growling Tigers' Mo Tounkara, while the second was of the same hit, and was on Gelo Crisostomo.

In the previous year, as the Red Warriors were looking to boost their Final 4 chances, Momowei also sat their game against the Blue Eagles, and this did not help UE's cause as they were not only dealt with a loss but also went on to see their playoff chances slip away after that game.

Aside from this, Momowei, who was Season 86's Rookie of the Year frontrunner, was also disqualified from getting any awards and citations due to league rules.

Unfortunately for the 6-foot-9 ace, who is among the league's Top 5 players statistically, it will be the same case once more in Season 87.

He already expressed his apologies to Tounkara, Crisostomo, and the whole UST team last Saturday right after the game, and also pointed out their desire to appeal the calls.

"I hope they accept the appeal. The foul wasn't intentional," he said last Saturday.

"I was going for a lay-up, and honestly, I was expecting an and-one. I must have dropped my elbow [on Crisostomo], but it was unintentional,"

Unfortunately, the 6-6, Momowei-less Red Warriors will be looking to end their skid and finally enter the Final 4 against the 3-9 Blue Eagles who are eager to finish the season on a positive note.
