MANILA - PBA legend James Yap revealed he hasn't seen his son James "Bimby" Aquino Yap in a decade. 

The athlete revealed this in an interview on Tuesday when asked who accompanied him during his certificate of candidacy (COC) filing as councilor of San Juan City's First District.

Responding to whether or not he meets with Bimby, his son with actress-host Kris Aquino, Yap said, "Wala na, 10 years na."

Aquino and Yap had a civil wedding in 2005. They welcomed Bimby two years later in 2007.

They separated in 2010, and their marriage was annulled two years later in 2012. Aquino said her age gap with Yap was a factor in their marriage eventually ending.

Last year, Aquino said Bimby, her youngest son, had started "rebuilding his relationship" with his father.

Meanwhile, Yap said that his partner Michela Cazzola could not accompany him during Tuesday's COC filing as she was fetching their kids from school.

"Actually, ako lang. 'Yung sister ko kasi nanganak siya e... 'yung mga bata may pasok na eh, so ako lang muna," Yap said.

Yap's COC filing marked his bid for a second term in San Juan's first district. He is running in alliance with fellow basketball player-turned-politician Mayor Francis Zamora.
