MANILA -- The FIFA Futsal Women's World Cup will take place on November 21 to December 7 next year in the Philippines, the world's football body announced on Thursday.

The dates were decided during the FIFA Council meeting in Zurich last week.

FIFA had announced in May that the Philippines will host the inaugural edition of the Futsal Women's World Cup. In June, Philippine Football Federation (PFF) President John Gutierrez said they were considering the fourth quarter of 2025 as potential dates.

"We are very very thankful to FIFA for entrusting us with this very momentous event," said Gutierrez at the time. 

"Among them the biggest powerhouse in futsal and women’s futsal like Brazil, Spain, Italy, were also keenly interested in hosting this tournament. Among these bidders, obviously the Philippines was one of the top contenders and is because of the development of football in the country," said Yarza.

Jaime Yarza, Director for FIFA Tournaments, said the PFF and the government’s efforts to promote the football and futsal has been the key element of giving the hosting rights to the Philippines.

A total of 16 teams will compete in the tournament.
