After only winning one game in seven first-round bouts, the Blue Eagles defeated National University and University of Santo Tomas to improve to 3-6 in the standings, and this put them at No.5 — still within striking distance of a spot in the Final Four.

Ateneo head coach Tab Baldwin pointed out how this might show that there is some semblance of progress for his team following these pair of wins, saying that it takes off some pressure that their previous skid clouded them earlier in the season.

However, Baldwin expounded that gauging the progress of the Blue Eagles must be viewed in the internal standards that are put into his troops, not those coming from the outside.

You know, this group of guys had to replace a lot of players that were expected to be here this season," Coach Tab said of his team that saw the exit of the likes of Kai Ballungay and Geo Chiu.

Baldwin didn’t discount how these wins are valuable considering the number of young players that they have, among them Jared Bahay and Kristian Porter, but he also emphasized that they must not, in any way, get satisfied as they enter their last five games in Season 87.

"Compared to where we want to go, we're just scratching the surface. We're not satisfied, but we like the results," he said.
