In her own way, Valdez has been helping the community grow by holding the Alyssa Valdez Youth Volleyball Camp (AVYVC) for free to inspire and help kids pursue and improve in the sport.

In a YouTube vlog with TV Patrol anchor Bernadette Sembrano, the 31-year-old volleyball superstar gave details on the AVYVC and said that putting up the camps gave her a renewed sense of purpose as she nurses her previous knee injury.

"I've been playing for so long po, so parang when I got injured, I felt like hindi naman useless, pero somewhat like that. Parang I can't see myself not doing anything for the sport," Valdez shared. "So I guess, that was one of the reasons why bumalik po 'yung mga camps na dati ginagawa ko na rin."

"Ang hirap to just stay at home 'di ba, when you're injured and you're so used to getting out all the time, training. 'Pag medyo chinallenge ka talaga ni Lord, may mga lalabas din talagang mga bagay-bagay for you also na purpose," she added.

Asked whether she was already "passing it on," Valdez answered: "I feel like I'm seeing other paths lang din po."

But while she sees herself as a mentor of the next generation, Valdez said she still wants to get better and "get all the championships."

Valdez has been sidelined in the past Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced and Invitational conferences due to her injury.

"I'm trying to look at it in a way na I think, as a player kasi, I wanna, for sure, I want to still improve. So minsan 'pag nagka-camp din po, naha-humble ako. Nari-realize ko bakit ko ginagawa 'to, bakit ako bumabalik sa volleyball, bakit gusto ko mag-volleyball," she said.
"I'm trying to look at it in a way na I think, as a player kasi, I wanna, for sure, I want to still improve. So minsan 'pag nagka-camp din po, naha-humble ako. Nari-realize ko bakit ko ginagawa 'to, bakit ako bumabalik sa volleyball, bakit gusto ko mag-volleyball," she said.

"Don't get me wrong, I really wanna improve, get all the championships, I mean play for the team, but I think 'yung purpose din na hinahanap ko po, it's more than just about playing na. Actually, hopefully, helping the kids and serving the sport in any way possible," the former Ateneo Lady Eagle went on.

Valdez also shared that they were able to put those camps by asking for support from commercial brands and local government units.

"Sana, sana magtuloy-tuloy po. Actually, it's a free camp, so we talk to mga brands lang to help din po para 'yung mga kids, they get all the things that they need to train. Free lang and we wanted na LGUs 'yung partner and public schools 'yung mga kasama," Valdez shared.

Valdez has high hopes for the potential of aspiring Filipino volleyball athletes.

"I see a lot of potential sa mga kids, and I really want to see them play in the long run. Tayo naman 'yung magchi-cheer [while they're] playing for the Philippines," the Creamline star said.
