Matchroom PoolMANILA -- Already a multiple medalist in the Southeast Asian Games, Singapore's Aloysius Yapp added another trophy to his collection when he was named the Most Valuable Player of the inaugural Reyes Cup on Saturday morning in Manila.

Yapp put the finishing touches on Team Asia's 11-6 win against Team Europe at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium by beating Francisco Sanchez Ruiz, 5-1.

"It's definitely a real special moment in my career so far and it's definitely a moment that I will never forget," said Yapp after the tournament.

"Before the event, I thought maybe it might be the language barrier, but it turns out that all of us just gel really well and we all had so much fun together," he added.

He was also grateful for the support of his teammates and the fans, saying: "I know that everyone has my back, they really kept me going."

"It kinda like settled me down. I felt really calm knowing that everyone is behind me, so I’m happy to just get the win," he added.

The 28-year-old Yapp is a gold medalist in the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, and won a silver in doubles 9-ball when the Philippines hosted the biennial meet in 2019. Incidentally, he and Toh Lian Han defeated his Team Asia teammates, Johann Chua and Carlo Biado, in the semifinals that year.

He is grateful to have teamed up with them in the Reyes Cup, where they were captained by the legendary Efren "Bata" Reyes.

"These are the best teammates you can ever hope for," Yapp said.
