Handout/SSLAction between College of St. Benilde and San Sebastian College in the 2024 Shakey's Super League Pre-season Championship, October 18, 2024 at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum. Handout/SSLMANILA -- College of St. Benilde secured the last ticket to the next round of the 2024 Shakey's Super League Pre-season Championship after sweeping San Sebastian College, 25-19, 25-18, 25-20, on Friday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

The Lady Blazers finished with a 2-1 record in Pool D, with veteran Wielyn Estoque leading the way in their second straight win. She finished with a game-high 13 points built on 11 kills, a block and an ace.

The reigning NCAA champions needed to show their composure after the Lady Stags came within one point in the third set, 21-20.

Clydel Catarig sparked a match-ending 4-0 run for St. Benilde, capping the match with a hit from the middle to seal the win.

"'Yan naman ang inaasahan ko sa kanila. Ganoon naman tayo -- tuturuan sila ng tama, and composure is part of it," CSB coach Jerry Yee said. "Also, matagal na tayo sa labas, sa SSL and other leagues, so nakikita ko na nagma-mature naman sila, nagi-improve and nakikinig naman sila."

Catarig finished with nine points while Cristy Ondangan and Rhea Densing added seven and six markers, respectively, for the Lady Blazers.

San Sebastian, led by Christina Marasigan's nine points, ended its campaign winless in three outings.

Saint Benilde faces University of the East in Pool E on Sunday at the start of the second round-robin phase, where two twice-to-beat advantages in the crossover quarterfinals are at stake.

Also in Pool E are three-peat-seeking National University and De La Salle University.

University of Santo Tomas, Ateneo de Manila University, Far Eastern University and University of the Philippines are in Pool F of the competition.
