MANILA, Philippines — After an intense four-night tournament led by its captain Efren "Bata" Reyes, Team Asia secured the trophy of the inaugural Reyes Cup around midnight Saturday by defeating Team Europe with a decisive score of 11-6.

Team Europe put up a fierce fight on the final day, but despite their efforts, they were unable to take advantage over the leading Team Asia, which ultimately claimed victory.

Singaporean Aloysius Yapp led Team Asia to its 11-point score in a match against Team Europe’s Francisco Sanchez Ruiz.

“The Magician” Reyes earlier admitted his team would be the underdogs in the cup, against the all-star Europe team.

The teams’ face-off began between Team Asia’s Johann Chua and Team Europe’s David Alcaide, with Alcaide clinching victory to give Team Europe its fourth win.

The doubles match, meanwhile, pitted Ko Pin Yi and Duong Quoc Hoang of Team Asia against Sanchez Ruiz and Mickey Krause of Team Europe.

The European duo claimed the first win before Ko and Duong again took the lead.

Another singles match, this time between Jayson Shaw and Carlo Biado gave Europe its fifth win against Team Asia’s 10 points.

The thrilling 17 matches of singles and doubles held since Tuesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium attracted international pool fans.
