NEW CLARK CITY -- It was a potential gold for the Philippines and a return to the throne for Eric Cray as the fastest man in Southeast Asian Games, but he fumbled twice in the preliminaries Sunday morning and was disqualified.

Cray was visibly upset with the two mishaps he did in heat 1 of the men's 100-meter run. He was left sitting at the side of the track as the other sprinters raced for a spot in the finals.

Hours later, Cray, who is an Olympian, returned to the Athletics Stadium and propelled the Philippine team to gold in the first-ever 4x100 relay mixed gender.

"I just wanted to make sure I got the candle. I had a mishap in the 100 [meter] so I'm kinda down on my self. Try to get my mind ready for the race, not to let my teammates down. And tried to make the country proud tonight," Cray told reporters.

The multi-SEA Games gold medalist sprinter admitted the relay was redemption from his costly error in the morning but stressed that he has moved on from the mishap.

"I just want to get my mind right. Come out and run a good race. And get ready for the next 2 days. I guarantee you I want the gold on the last day (400m hurdles)," he said.

According to the athlete, the gun sound was a little low so he misheard it and jumped out too early.

He is expected to race a few more events in the last two days of the games.
