The Philippines women's national football team still couldn't get over the Vietnam hump, as the hosts lost to the defending champions 2-0 in their semifinals in these Southeast Asian Games on Thursday.

The Filipinas hoped to assure themselves of at least a silver-medal finish for the first time in SEA Games history and, after a scoreless first half at Biñan Football Stadium in Laguna, the home side liked its chances.

But in the 60th minute, the tide began to turn in the visitors' favor, as Thai Thi Thao put the five-time SEA Games champs ahead.

The Philippines looked to pull off a late miracle, but Quinley Quezada and Claire Lim came up empty.

Sara Castañeda found the back of the net in the 73rd, but the celebration was cut short as the goal was ruled offside.

In the 83rd, Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung closed the door on the Philippines with a match-sealing goal.

All isn't lost for the Filipinas, however, as they still have a chance at a podium finish when they face Myanmar at Rizal Memorial Football Stadium on Saturday. Kickoff is at 4 p.m.

The women's football team is eyeing a first bronze-medal finish since 1985.
