Win the Comeback Player of the Year award once, and it’s a testament to a person’s resilience.

Win it twice and never question that man’s willpower.

Kelly Williams received the honor given to him by the PBA Press Corps in an awarding ceremony Thursday night, his second such citation.

On Instagram Friday, the TNT forward and former Gilas Pilipinas player said “it’s not everyday that we get commended for overcoming in the face of adversity.”

Comeback Player of the Year for the 2nd time. The first time was after the initial bout with a blood disorder. This time, it was 2 MCL injuries and a shit ton of off-court issues that most people will never know about. But today I'm grateful. It's not everyday that we get commended for overcoming in the face of adversity. I'm from Detroit, where you either find a way or make a way. So I have to thank my city for instilling that in me. I didn't necessarily aspire for this award because of what it entails. But if I have to be the example in order for someone else to overcome then I'll be that. Thanks to the PBA Press Corps for choosing me as this year's recipient. Thanks to the fans #TNTKatropa. Thanks to Coach Nash, the staff, and my teammates for allowing me to be me and play my game. Thanks to the ones who've came and went in this time that have played a positive role. Special thanks to the handful who continue to bring love and light into my life, who are my source of motivation and strength on the days I just don't want to fucking do it. You know exactly who you are.. And go grab my book, Rising Higher...it's making more sense to me now. Link in bio. Stay hungry. Oh, and I was singing in this shot...well, it looks like it at least 😏 📸: @fraueygirl 👊🏼 #pbapresscorpsawardsnight #battle #struggle #overcome #win #motivation #nohype #detroit #newchaptersahead @pbaconnect

“Comeback Player of the Year for the 2nd time. The first time was after the initial bout with a blood disorder. This time, it was 2 MCL injuries and a (expletive) ton of off-court issues that most people will never know about. But today I'm grateful,” the 2008 MVP and 6-time PBA champion wrote.

Williams was a vital cog in a year that saw TNT reach the finals once and the semifinals twice.

He played center numerous times and was the designated import stopper, a role that required him to be in his physical best night in, night out.

At 35 and despite the kind of injuries he had sustained, he showed he could still play above the rim, finishing plays with ferocious dunks whenever there’s an opening.

“I didn’t necessarily aspire for this award because of what it entails,” Williams said.

“But if I have to be the example in order for someone else to overcome then I’ll be that.”
