MANILA -- Mark Anthony Barriga will have a bigger chance of winning if he presses the action against fellow mini flyweight Carlos Licona of Mexico in this weekend IBF mini flyweight title bout in Los Angeles, California.

Boxing analyst Ed Tolentino is one with Barriga’s coach Joven Jimenez as far as strategies is concerned.

“Mexican Carlos Licona is an aggressive boxer-puncher, offering a higher punch volume. The challenge for Barriga is to accelerate a little on offense, to match the aggressiveness of Licona with timely counters,” Tolentino said.

The 23-year-old Licona is undefeated in 13 fights and is expected to be a typical Mexican warrior on fight night. But Tolentino said Barriga will need to initiate the action.

“The more important aspect is for Barriga to be more aggressive. We do not want him to be too passive and settle on a counter punching mode. Licona will take the fight to him and we want Barriga to vary his offense,” he said.

Barriga and Licona will be fighting in the main card of the Deontay Wilder-Tyson Fury WBC heavyweight title match at Staples Center.

Barriga, who represented the Philippines in the 2012 London Olympics, is undefeated in 9 fights.

He also plans to become the first Filipino Olympian to win a world title.
