(UPDATED) The Philippine national women's football team wrapped up its campaign in the second round of the AFC Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament with a 1-nil victory over Iran.

Team captain Tahnai Annis scored the lone goal of the match for the Filipinas in the 19th minute to keep their Olympic bid alive at HBF Park in Perth on Wednesday, Manila time.

Iranian goal-keeper Zahra Khajavi punched out an initial attempt from Sofia Harrison, but Annis was there to pounce on the rebound and put the Filipinas ahead.

But the Philippines was unable to find the back of the net again, with the 63rd-ranked Iranians buckling down defensively the rest of the way while also threatening the Filipinas' goal.

"They defended really well, they probably actually attacked more in this game than they did in the first two, which created some opportunities," Philippines coach Mark Torcaso said of Iran.

"But in the end we didn't concede either. So we got the three points. It was probably a pretty ugly game from that perspective, but in the end we got three points, and we got the goals that we wanted in regards to getting six points out of this group," he added.

Iran came up with better defense and even got considerable amount of ball possession during the second half.

The 44th-ranked Filipinas upped the ante during added time as Quinley Quezada and Sarina Bolden fired a couple of strikes, but they both failed to find the back of the net.

With the win, the Philippines pocketed two victories in the second round and finished second in Group A behind Australia, which came out victorious last time against the Filipinas, 8-0.

Unfortunately for the Filipinas, Uzbekistan's 3-0 win over India later in the night means that they will miss out on the third round of the Olympic qualifiers.

Instead, Uzbekistan finished as the best second-placed team and will join Japan, Australia, and North Korea in the third round to determine who will represent Asia in the Paris Olympics next year.
