MANILA, Philippines -- (UPDATED) Defending champion San Beda University simply overpowered Arellano University, 90-52, to secure its ninth consecutive victory in the NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball tournament on Thursday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

There was no need for Robert Bolick to score 50 points this time around, as the Red Lions held the Chiefs to just eight points in the second quarter to blow the game wide open.

Javee Mocon uncorked 24 points on 7-of-13 shooting, making five of his eight attempts from beyond the arc while grabbing 11 rebounds. Bolick had 11 points and nine assists, as the Red Lions shot 47.14% from the field.

“We just have to take good care of ourselves,” said San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez after the game. “Hindi ko sigurado kung ano ang sitwasyon namin, but kung twice-to-beat na kami, we’ll consider our remaining games as playoff games.”

With the victory, the defending champions are now assured of a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final 4.

The Red Lions showed no mercy on the Chiefs, as they opened up a 30-point advantage, 69-39, thanks to Clint Doliguez with 7:15 to play in the game.

A booming three-pointer from Joe Presbitero with 15 seconds left pegged the final score, as the Red Lions dropped 30 points on Arellano in the final quarter.

Their 38-point triumph marked the biggest winning margin of the season, surpassing Lyceum of the Philippines University’s 113-79 rout of Arellano last September 27.

The Red Lions clobbered the Chiefs in all departments, tallying a 47-32 advantage on the boards and an 18-9 edge in assists. They also translated Arellano’s 19 turnovers to 16 points.
