MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATED) Choco Mucho gave the legendary Manilla Santos-Ng a winning return to volleyball, as they swept BaliPure in their first game of the 2019 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference on Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Flying Titans got off to a blazing start to claim a 25-12, 25-18, 25-18 triumph to kick off their campaign on a high note.

Setter AC Masangkay earned Player of the Game honors after tallying 18 excellent sets, as she maximized the presence of Kat Tolentino, Bang Pineda, and Maddie Madayag.

"Sinabi ng coaching staff na teamwork talaga at tiwala talaga kay God," Masangkay said. "If ever na magkaroon kami ng error, balik agad kami."

Tolentino had 14 points, while Madayag finished with 11 markers and Pineda scored 8. Santos-Ng had 2 points in a reserve role.

Choco Mucho cruised to a huge win in the opening set, which saw Santos-Ng – the iconic player from De La Salle University – play competitive volleyball for the first time in a decade. The former Lady Spiker made her presence felt, contributing a service ace for a 21-8 advantage.

But the Water Defenders fought back in Set 2, even leading 13-9 before Choco Mucho regained its stride. A hit by Pineda pushed the Flying Titans ahead, 16-15, and they never trailed again.

Choco Mucho maintained control in the third set, though a Shirley Salamagos attack kept BaliPure in the fight, 22-18. But the Water Defenders shot themselves in the foot by committing three straight errors, handing the win to Choco Mucho.

No player reached double-digits for BaliPure, with Menchie Tubiera and Grazielle Bombita each scoring 9 points.

Choco Mucho put up 33 attack points and scored 10 aces, while also getting 28 free points off BaliPure's errors. The Water Defenders only had 24 kills and failed to grab an ace in the game.
