MANILA - Vice President Leni Robredo on Tuesday expressed her gratitude and support to Filipino athletes competing in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, hours after the Philippines got another medal.

Today is no exception," Robredo said.

The country's second highest official congratulated boxers Nesthy Petecio, Carlo Paalam and Eumir Marcial for making history for the country.

The official likewise expressed her support for EJ Obiena, Yuka Saso and Bianca Pagdanganan for their upcoming matches.

Robredo thanked all the athletes for making the Filipinos proud and uniting the country as it continues its battle against COVID-19.

Kina Juvic, Kristina, Elreen, Remedy, Kiyomi, Cris, Kurt, Jayson, Luke, at Irish," she said.

Thank you for bringing us together, lalo na sa panahong ito. Buong bansa, isang pamilyang nae-excite, nagchi-cheer, at nagse-celebrate sa bawat laban ninyo," Robredo added.

Aside from Diaz' gold medal in weightlifting and Petecio's silver medal in boxing, Marcial and Paalam are also assured of bronze medals in men's middleweight and flyweight, respectively, and will be gunning for the gold medal matches on Thursday.

This is the Philippines' largest medal haul in a single Olympic Games.
