Marty Melville, AFP</figcaption></figure></div>(UPDATED) Sarina Bolden made history for the Philippines on Tuesday as she scored the country&#x27;s first ever goal in the FIFA Women&#x27;s World Cup at the Sky Stadium.Bolden put the Filipinas ahead of co-host New Zealand in the 24th minute, heading in the ball past goal-keeper Victoria Esson despite being tightly marked by CJ Bott and Katie Bowen.The goal gave the Filipinas a 1-0 lead and triggered wild celebrations among the Philippine community at the venue in Wellington.The Philippines became the first debutante team to score in the FIFA Women&#x27;s World Cup 2023, while Bolden took her tally to 22 goals for the country. The goal came in the Philippines&#x27; first shot on target throughout the match.New Zealand had dominated possession for most of the first half, but the Filipinas&#x27; defense held them off. A foul by Indiah-Paige Riley on Sara Eggesvik set up Angela Beard&#x27;s free kick that sent the ball into New Zealand&#x27;s box. The Football Ferns made an initial clearance, but Eggesvik gained control of the ball and fired the cross that Bolden rose highest to meet.New Zealand pressed forward after Bolden&#x27;s breakthrough, but the Philippines&#x27; defense stayed resolute for the rest of the half.Hannah Wilkinson, the hero of New Zealand&#x27;s upset of Norway in their first match last Thursday, was given a yellow card after a tough challenge on Sofia Harrison inside the Philippines box in the closing minutes of the first half.The Football Ferns had 56% of possession, with the Filipinas holding the ball just 24% of the time in the opening 45 minutes.
