Danijela Dzakovic deeply regretted what she did to teammate Jewelle Bermillo in a spur of the moment reaction after a crucial case of miscommunication in the first set of BaliPure’s straight-sets loss to defending champion Creamline on Saturday in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Reinforced Conference.

Emotions got the best of the Montenegrin player, as she hit the libero on the back of her head following the crucial error in retrieving the ball that could’ve extended the opening frame.

The incident immediately went viral and resulted to angry reactions from fans on social media.

“One more lesson in my life especially for this situation that happened after the first set. I just want to say sorry to my teammate. I love her, we are really good friends,” said Dzakovic after the Water Defenders’ 19-25, 15-25, 18-25, loss at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

The 5-foot-9 hitter was filled with remorse with her action as she herself was shocked with the way she reacted.

“I'm so disappointed of myself and I want to say sorry to all fans and people who followed us and supported our games,” said Dzakovic. “But I was not able to control my emotions, I have been playing volleyball for 16 years but this is the first time it happened. I cannot believe [I did that]. I'm shocked.”

With Creamline at set point, 24-19, Cool Smasher Jema Galanza hit an off-speed attack. Setter Vira Guillema saved the ball but sent it flying to the backline where Dzakovic was already positioning to receive it. Bermillo who was at the frontline also chased the ball and apparently didn’t hear Dzakovic’s call that she’s already on it.

The two got tangled in their attempt to touch the ball that resulted in an error.

Dzakovic then smacked Bermillo with her left hand before immediately hugging her teammate after realizing her mistake.

“We all practiced about in-game communications. And when someone say "my ball", other people (should) go out (of the way). For example, if I say "my ball", I play and that's it,” she said. “And she go and hit my (ball) and then I cannot control (myself) because we talked about it one million times but I don't know, I'm disappointed with myself.”

Dzakovic, who is set to leave early Sunday morning, had already apologized to Bermillo.

“I said so sorry. I'm so close with her and I love her. I just hugged her since I cannot explain this,” said Dzakovic.
