Reigning WBA (Super) Bantamweight World Champion Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire Jr. of the Philippines needed only six rounds to take care of business against American Stephon Young, scoring a sixth-round knockout to retain his ttile and advance into the Finals of the World Boxing Super Series Bantmaweight Finals, Saturday in Lafayette, Louisiana (Sunday morning, Manila time).

Save for a strong showing in the second round from Young, Donaire Jr. was in the drivers' seat for the majority of the match as he came out aggressive in the opening round.

Young, who was a last-minute replacement for the injured WBO Bantamweight World Champion Zolani Tete of South Africa, pretty much had nothing for Donaire Jr., a four-division world champion after the second stanza.

Donaire Jr. made use of his jab to outbox Young in the succeeding rounds and put a final stamp in the sixth round with a familiar finishing blow.

Reminiscent of past knockout victories, Donaire Jr. unloaded a counter-left hook that landed flush on Young's jaw, immediately shutting the #5-ranked WBA contender's lights out.

With the win, Donaire Jr. improves to 40 wins and 5 losses with 26 of those wins coming via knockout.

The WBSS Bantamweight Tournament has been a career rejuvenation of sorts for Donaire Jr., who had dropped two of his last three bouts prior to the eight-man tourney.

The 36-year old advanced to the semis by outlasting Ryan Burnett who went down in the 4th round after a back injury.

Now, Donaire Jr. awaits the winner of the other semifinal matchup between WBA (Regular) Bantamweight World Champion Naoya Inoue of Japan and IBF Bantamweight World Champion Emmanuel Rodriguez of Puerto Rico.

After his win over Young, Donaire Jr. made it known that it's the number one-ranked Inoue that he would like to face in the Finals.
