Players of the Pasig Kings and the 1Bataan Risers were given a pleasant surprise during a send-off lunch in Quezon City on Friday.

The two teams earned the right to represent the country in the 2019 FIBA 3x3 World Tour Masters in Doha by making it to the final and semifinal, respectively, in the recently concluded 2019 3x3 Asia Pacific Super Quest.

For their efforts, the players of both squads were given a “personal gift” by Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 league owner Ronald Mascariñas. The reward totaled P2 million.

According to league officials, the 1Bataan quartet of Alvin Pasaol, Santi Santillan, Karl Dehesa, and American import Travis Franklin received more than the Pasig quintet of Joshua Munzon, Taylor Statham, Troy Rike, Dylan Ababou, and Serbian reinforcement Nikola Pavlovic for making it to the finals of the regional meet.

Still, the players were grateful for the bonus, as 1Bataan and Pasig already received $15,000 and $7,000 as prizes, respectively.

"We were surprised," Munzon said. "None of us expected this. I thought we were just going to have lunch here."

Pasaol added: "Malaking bagay ito sa amin kasi napapakita namin na hindi lang sa five-on-five ang future ng basketball player."

The FIBA 3x3 World Tour Masters Doha will be held April 18 to 19.
