MANILA, Philippines – EcoOil-De La Salle University weathered a late rally by Wangs-Colegio de San Juan de Letran for a 102-90 win, giving them a good start to their campaign in the 2020 PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup on Monday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

A balanced attack got it done for the Green Archers as they gave new head coach Derrick Pumaren his first win.

Five players scored in double-digits for EcoOil-La Salle, led by Encho Serrano who had 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists. Aljun Melecio had 15 points with 8 assists and 6 rebounds, while making 4 three-pointers in the game.

Justine Baltazar produced a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds along with 3 assists and 2 blocks, while Senegalese center Amadou Ndiaye contributed 12 points, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals.

Also stepping up was sophomore Joshua David, who did a little bit of everything with 12 points, 8 assists, 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks for the Green Archers.

It was an impressive showing for EcoOil-La Salle, which led by as much as 19 points, 53-34, late in the second quarter.

The Green Archers' foul trouble allowed Wangs-Letran to recover, and Fran Yu helped them get within six points, 84-78, with 5:27 left. They would get no closer, however, as Serrano, Melecio, and Baltazar hit big shots to restore order.

"We're still far from the form that I want them. We've been making mistakes defensively and we've been fouling a lot, so it's still a long way to go for us," said Pumaren.

Yu anchored the Knights with 24 points, five assists, four rebounds, and two steals, while Kenny Rocacurva had 15 points, four dimes, and three boards.

Wangs-Letran played without big men Larry Muyang and Christian Fajarito.

The scores:

ECOOIL-LA SALLE 102 -- Serrano 19, Baltazar 16, Melecio 15, David 12, Ndiaye 12, Manuel 9, Hill 6, Bartlett 6, Vales 5, Cu 2, Bates 0.
