He may be one of the most popular and sought-after actors in the local entertainment scene at present, yet Paulo Avelino has managed to keep his personal life away from the spotlight, which includes his life as a son and a brother to his family.

But even though he hasn’t posted about them on social media in previous years, we’re still able to retrieve a few throwback snaps of him with them and collate those in this gallery. Aside from that, we’re also able to find an old interview of him with CinemaOne uploaded on YouTube, in which he willingly talked a bit about his childhood, family, and his beginnings in showbiz.

Born Michael Paulo Lingbanan Avelino on May 13, 1988, in Baguio City, he is the second offspring of his parents, Roberto and Jennilyn Avelino. His mom worked as an accountant and hailed from Bontok, Mountain Province, while his father came from a prominent political clan in Calbayog, Samar. In fact, his paternal great-grandfather, Jose Avelino, was the Senate president during the regime of President Manuel Roxas and was proclaimed the “Father of Calbayog City.”

After meeting in Manila, his parents decided to live in Baguio City, where they raised him, and his older sister Honey and his younger siblings Gabriel and Angela.

Growing up, Paulo’s interest didn’t veer towards politics, as he found himself more inclined toward film and acting. And the movie that first sparked his curiosity about film production was the 1989 American science fiction-comedy flick “Honey, I Shrunk The Kids” as it got him totally amused.

This enkindled his aspiration to become an actor, which came true when he was scouted by talent agents who were vacationing in Baguio City in the early 2000s. They gave him their calling cards and invited him to undergo VTR in Manila, which he did and eventually started doing commercials and print ads. He then joined a reality talent search at a media company in 2006, but failed to make it until the end.

He might not have won the competition, yet it served as his launchpad for the industry. He was able to score several stints in various TV shows within the five years that he was there, until he decided to transfer to ABS-CBN in 2011 for a career change. And the rest, as they say, is history.

In more than a decade of being a certified Kapamilya, Paulo has already starred in a number of successful teleseryes and movies that didn’t just hone and exhibit his acting chops but also catapulted him into becoming one of the most brilliant, versatile, and sought-after actors in the country. Among his teleserye projects in recent years include What's Wrong with Secretary Kim (2024), Linlang (2023), Flower of Evil (2022), Marry Me Marry You (2021), and Walang Hanggang Paalam (2020).
