Hundreds of families are still staying in government shelters in Cainta, Rizal Tuesday after heavy rains brought by Tropical Storm Enteng caused floods in the entire municipality.

Mayor Elen Nieto said 600 plus families are currently staying in 7-8 evacuation centers.

“Lahat ng barangay ay naka-experience ng pagbaha, nalubog ng baha,” she said in a TeleRadyo Serbisyo interview.

“Noong araw nung time ng Espanyol, ang tawag po sa amin ay Kingdom of Sapa. Totoo po yun, among others. Malaking sapa siya. Lahat ng ulan na galing sa bundok ay sinasalo ng Cainta,” she added.

Nieto said some heads of families are now starting the heavy work of cleaning up their homes after the flood.

Floods and landslides killed 11 people after a fierce tropical storm dumped heavy rain on the Philippines for 2 straight days.

Weather bureau PAGASA earlier said Tropical Storm Enteng has weakened after hitting the mountain ranges of the Cordillera Administrative Region and Cagayan Valley Tuesday but is set to gain strength once it reaches the West Philippine Sea.
