Handout/PHIVOLCSMANILA — A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck Cebu on Sunday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.

PHIVOLCS said damages and aftershocks are expected from the earthquake that took place at 2:53 p.m. 

The quake of tectonic origin was at a depth of 11 kilometers. It was located northwest of Poro, Cebu.

The quake was felt at Intensity IV (Moderately Strong) in Poro and City of Talisay, Cebu; Candijay, Duero, Inabanga, President Carlos P. Garcia, San Miguel, Sierra Bullones, and Talibon, Bohol; City of Baybay, Hilongos, Hindang, and Matalom, Leyte.

Intensity III (Weak) was felt in San Fernando, Cebu; Garcia Hernandez, Bohol; Albuera, Merida, and Palompon, Leyte; Ormoc City; Sogod, Southern Leyte.

Intensity II (Slightly felt) was experienced in Argao, Cebu; Isabel, Javier, and Villaba, Leyte; Hinunangan and Hinundayan, Southern Leyte.

Carigara, Dulag, and Matag-ob, Leyte felt Intensity I.

The following instrumental intensities were recorded:

Intensity IV - City of Cebu; City of Baybay and Hilongos, Leyte

Intensity III - Hinunangan and Sogod, Southern Leyte

Intensity II - Argao and San Fernando, Cebu; Javier, Leyte

Intensity I - Alangalang, Carigara, Dulag, and Kananga, Leyte
