MANILA — San Pedro, Laguna was placed on red alert status Monday as floods submerged many parts of the city overnight due to typhoon Enteng.

San Pedro is now under "Charlie" protocol or extreme risk category, a classification system of the Department of the Interior and Local Government. It means all government agencies are on alert and the city is required to give regular public updates.

"Over 653 individuals ang naapektuhan. I think 174 families yung nasa evacuation center, yung iba ayaw mag-evacuate gusto sa bahay lang," San Pedro Mayor Art Mercado told ABS-CBN News.

The mayor added they have given relief goods to affected families. DILG Secretary Benjamin Abalos visited the evacuation sites and helped distribute food aid.

Though rains have weakened Monday afternoon, the local government is preparing in case the weather worsens again.

"Continuous pa rin preparation namin o pag-iikot ng ating mga team together with BFP, PNP, rescuers natin," Mercado said.

Several villages in San Pedro submerged under water including San Antonio, Landayan, and Cuyab.

Residents had to wade though the flood, as some homes were also affected.
