Tropical storm Enteng has weakened after hitting the mountain ranges of the Cordillera Administrative Region and Cagayan Valley Tuesday but is set to gain strength once it reaches the West Philippine Sea, weather bureau PAGASA said.

“Kapansin-pansin ang paghina ni Bagyong Enteng dahil dumaan ito sa bandang Cagayan Valley at Cordillera Region, mga bulubundukin doon ang siyang nagpahina subalit pagdating sa West Philippine Sea mamayang umaga ay posibleng lalakas muli ito,” weather forecaster Benison Estareja said in a PAGASA weather report.

At least 11 people were killed after Enteng (international codename Yagi) slammed into the main island of Luzon on Monday after brushing past the Bicol region southeast of Manila overnight Sunday.

As of 4 a.m., the center of the eye of Tropical Storm Enteng was estimated based on all available data over the coastal waters of Paoay, Ilocos Norte. Packing 75 kph winds and gusts of up to 125 kph, Enteng is forecast to become a severe tropical storm by Tuesday afternoon at the earliest or evening, and typhoon category by Thursday.

The weather bureau said the tropical cyclone may exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Wednesday morning.

PAGASA weather forecaster Ana Clauren Jorda, however, said the country may experience inclement weather until Friday this week.

PAGASA has also issued an orange heavy rainfall warning over Metro Manila, Zambales and Bataan as of 5 a.m., indicating threat of serious floods.

Ilocos Region is forecast to experience 100-200 mm of accumulated rainfall Tuesday while Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region will experience 50-100 mm of accumulated rainfall.

PAGASA warned forecast rainfall is generally higher in elevated or mountainous areas. “Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are expected especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in official hazard maps and in localities that experienced considerable amounts of rainfall for the past several days,” it said.

The habagat will also bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas (especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds):
