MANILA — A deaf father made a special request this weekend to a local pastry shop in Legazpi City, Albay, to bake him a simple cake worth P100 for his son who was graduating from college.

"Madam, meron po tag P100 na cake? Bili po ako kahit maliit lang sana. Pang-graduation po. T.Y.," the father wrote on a paper apparently torn from a notebook.

(Madam, do you have a cake for P100? I would like to buy one, even a small one, if possible. It's for a graduation. Thank you.)

But Lazy Baker Cupcakerie exceeded his expectations and gave him a cake worth P1,400 instead.

"Today, his eldest son is graduating, and he couldn't contain his pride and joy," the store wrote in a Facebook post on Sunday.

"He asked if we had a P100 cake to mark the occasion. Touched by his story and his unwavering love for his son, we gladly offered him a cake to celebrate this significant milestone," it said.

The bakery said it accepted the father's P100 payment as he was its first customer that day.

The father, who refused to be photographed and named for privacy according to the bakery, offered his services to the store in return for its generosity.

He wrote in another letter: "Madam pag may gusto ka po ipa-work or ipalinis dito, ako na lang po, makabawi man lang po ako sa lahat na binibigay mo po sa akin hehehe. God bless your family madam."

According to Lazy Baker Cupcakerie, the father visits their store "daily" on a bike to ask for cake scraps. His house is approximately 30 to 45 minutes away from the shop, it said.

"It's moments like these that remind us of the incredible strength of a parent's love and the true meaning of community. Congratulations to the proud father and his graduating son! Your story has inspired us all," the store wrote.

On Monday, the bakery said that the father learned about the post going viral.

The father was "very happy," the store said, adding: "He'll be glad to meet you at the bakery!"

"If you guys want to help, you can drop by the goods at our bakery. Just let us know when so he'll be there. Thank you all for your generosity and compassion."
