MANILA — The Philippine Air Force C295 transport aircraft that skidded off the runway at the Basco Airport has been towed from the runway and will be repaired, Armed Forces of the Philippines chief of staff General Romeo Brawner Jr. said

"Kagabi, nai-tow na natin ito sa gilid ng Basco Airport (We were able to tow it to the side of the airport), so we can resume the Basco Airport operations," Brawner told reporters in an interview at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City on Monday.

The nose landing gear of the aircraft detached while it was attempting a landing on Friday afternoon.

The plane, which left Manila earlier, was transporting family food packs for the Office of Civil Defense when the incident occurred.

No one was injured among the pilots and crew.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines and PAF are conducting an investigation into the incident.

Brawner said family food packs have already been prepositioned in Batanes as Tropical Storm Marce enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

He also assured the public that damage to the C295 will not hamper humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations.

"We still have other airlift assets aside from the C295 na iyon. Marami pa naman tayo—may mga C130 tayo, ibang C295," Brawner noted.

(We still have many C130s and other C295s)

Despite that, he said, the Philippines will still need assistance from other nations to respond to calamities like those left behind by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.

"That is why during [Severe Tropical Storm] Kristine, dumating ang partners natin from the ASEAN, like Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei, at tayo ay nagpapasalamat doon sa tulong na ibinigay nila sa atin," he added.

(That is why during Kristine, we had partners from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations] coming in, like from Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei, and we are grateful for the help that they gave us)
