Kristine, PH's 11th storm in 2024, enters PAR

The tropical depression spotted near the country has entered the Philippine area of responsibility and was named "Kristine", weather bureau PAGASA said Moday. 

As of 4 a.m, the center of Tropical Depression Kristine was estimated based on all available data at 1,050 km east of Southeastern Luzon.

Packing 55 kph winds and gusts of up to 70 kph, Kristine is forecast to intensify into a tropical storm in the next 12 hours. It may reach severe tropical storm category by Tuesday afternoon or evening and typhoon category by Thursday (24 October) afternoon or evening, prior to landfall over the northeastern portion of Cagayan.

Kristine is forecast to make landfall over Northern Luzon by Friday (25 October) afternoon.

Tropical cyclone wind signal no. 1 is hoisted over the following areas:

•  Luzon

•  Catanduanes 

•  Visayas

The northeastern portion of Northern Samar (Laoang, Palapag, Mapanas, Gamay, Catubig, Lapinig) and the northeastern portion of Eastern Samar (Jipapad, Arteche, San Policarpo, Oras)

PAGASA said the highest wind signal which may be hoisted during the occurrence of Kristine is Wind Signal No. 4.

Wind flow coming towards the circulation of Tropical Depression Kristine will also bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas (especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds):

• (21 October): the southern portion of Palawan, Siquijor, Bohol, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Agudan del Norte, BARMM, Sarangani, Davao del Sur, and Davao Oriental

• (22 October): Palawan, Romblon, Aklan, Antique, Negros Island Region, Bohol, Zamboanga del Norte, Northern Mindanao, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Agusan del Norte, Sarangani, Davao del Sur, and Davao Oriental.

• Wednesday (23 October): MIMAROPA, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Meanwhile, Cavite Gov. Athena Tolentino has suspended classes on all levels in the province Monday, October 21.

 “Stay safe and dry, everyone! Wag rin po natin kalimutan ang ating mga alagang hayop sa labas ng bahay,” she said in a Facebook post.
