Earlier this month, Korean acts like EXO’s Suho, Melomance, Seori, and Wave to Earth set the Philippine stage ablaze at the “On Festival Off: Manila” music fest at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Manila last November 3. Presented by ABS-CBN and KAMP, the 10-hour live concert serves as a convergence of local and international performers including South Korean idols and Filipino artists alike.

“It’s my first time here in the Philippines and of course, [even] more, in Manila. And you know, Korea is quite cold, and to feel the warm weather here, [I think] the atmosphere is great,” Seori said in an exclusive interview with Metro.Style.

“When I actually first entered the airport, I was expecting that no one would recognize me, but I was able to see some fans who were waiting for me and I was really, really thankful for them,” she continued. “Given the few days of time that I have, I want to try different food and try to visit different places as well.”

Meanwhile, the three-member indie band Wave to Earth told us what their initial impressions are of the Philippines. “When we first arrived here in the Philippines and we got to this hotel, our first view was the sea—the ocean—so we hope to experience that a lot more while we stay,” the group’s singer-songwriter, Daniel Kim, expressed.

John Cha, the ensemble’s bassist, is also excited to get his hands on some native fruit species. “You know, the Philippines is quite famous for chicken and rice, so we definitely love to have some chicken and rice. I [also] remember just the mangoes in Pinatubo. Definitely, mangoes will be our go-to.”

“We had little bananas but it was really sugary at the time, and it was really hard to just find it in Korea and it never tastes like that, so maybe [Philippine] bananas,” John added.

When asked what message they intend to convey through their music, however, Wave to Earth revealed that they usually build around two major themes: optimism and love.

Seori, in the same vein, is radiating positivity across the music scene. “First of all, I’m very thankful, but I do not think that I have already succeeded. I’m just in the beginning,” she reassured her fans. “After a lot of things that I wanted to try and tried to achieve and through the values that I’m actually gaining, I wanted to show you how much I can grow.”
