HACKENSACK, New Jersey – Hundreds gathered on Saturday to bid farewell to five members of a Filipino family who were killed in a car crash in Delaware last month.

The remains of Audie Trinidad and his daughters Kaitlyn, Danna, and twins Melissa and Allison were taken for cremation after a private funeral service held at the Rothman Center in Hackensack, New Jersey.

The Trinidad family was coming from a vacation on July 6 when a wrong-way pick-up truck struck the family’s minivan. Only Mary Rose Ballocanag, the family’s matriarch, survived the accident.

During a wake held last Friday at the Saint Anastasia Church in Teaneck, New Jersey, mourners came to pay their respect to the Trinidad family and offered support to Mary Rose.

“I really admire her strength and courage. I can see that she is a very strong woman, and just be strong… and remember that everybody is supporting her, her Filipino family and even the non-Filipino family or Teaneck are there to support her and the rest of the family,” said Cathy Baluran, a friend and neighbor of the Trinidad family.

The driver of the pick-up truck, 44-year-old Alvin Hubbard, walked away from the crash with non-life threatening injuries. He was released from police custody without any criminal charges until today.

Audie’s co-workers at the United States Postal Service also offered their support to Mary Rose to seek justice for the incident.

“Any justice that happens to that guy that did the damage is not gonna bring the family back… but something has to be done. This guy has to be accountable. He took 5 lives away,” said Edgar Rodriguez, one of Audie’s co-workers.
