"The situation is just death. People are dying — and now they are pulling them out from inside."

Large crowds of Palestinians gathered on Monday (June 23) around aid trucks to get food in Gaza's Beit Lahiya, amid extensive damage to buildings and infrastructure and severe food shortages.

People were seen climbing on and around aid trucks, while others walked or stood near the site. Several wounded were carried away from the area, and some families, including children, were transported using animal-drawn carts.

In the past days, dozens of Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire as they tried to get food from aid trucks brought into the enclave by the United Nations and international relief agencies, Gaza medics said.

Israel has been channelling much of the aid it is now allowing into Gaza through a new U.S.- and Israeli-backed group, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, which operates a handful of distribution sites in areas guarded by Israeli forces.

In recent days, the Israeli military said its forces had opened fire and fired warning shots to disperse people who approached areas where troops were operating, posing a threat. It said it was reviewing reports of casualties among civilians.

The European Union's top diplomat said on Monday she would take up concerns over suspected human rights breaches by Israel with its government, as talks in Brussels underscored divisions within the bloc over how to influence Israeli actions in Gaza.

The European Union's diplomatic service said in a report seen by Reuters on Friday there were indications that Israel had breached its human rights obligations under the terms of a pact governing its ties with the bloc.

The report includes a section dedicated to the situation in Gaza, covering issues related to denial of humanitarian aid, attacks on hospitals and medical facilities, displacement, and lack of accountability.

Israel's foreign ministry has rejected the EU report as a "moral and methodological failure."
