Filipino climber dies while preparing to summit Mt. Everest - report

A Filipino climber died while preparing to climb the summit of Mt. Everest, local media reported.


According to a report on The Himalayan Times, a Filipino climber, identified as Philipp Santiago II, died at Camp IV on the evening of May 14.

Santiago was preparing for the summit push when he died. He was part of the Mountaineering Association of Krishnanagar-Snowy Everest Expedition 2025.

The cause of his death is still unknown.

Journalist Emil Sumangil also confirmed the death of Santiago, who is his relative.

He also said the family requests privacy as they grieve for the death of Santiago.

Santiago’s death is the first of foreign climbers on Mt. Everest for this season, according to the Department of Tourism of Nepal.
