The Red Crescent published a video on Saturday (April 5), obtained from the cellphone of a paramedic found buried in the mass grave in Gaza.

The video recorded the final moments of the paramedic during the incident in which 15 aid workers were killed in southern Gaza last month.

Filmed from inside a moving vehicle, it appears to show a clearly marked convoy of ambulances and a fire truck driving at dawn with their red lights flashing. After they stop by a vehicle that had veered off the road, two rescue workers and another man can be seen before a volley of gunshots is heard.

Reuters was able to confirm the location near Tal al-Sultan in Gaza’s Rafah Governorate from the road layout, electric poles and the building structures nearby which matched satellite imagery of the area. 

The location also matched with the videos shared by the The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OCHA OPT) on March 30 where members of the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) and Palestinian Civil Defence (PCD) were seen excavating a mass grave. 

The date of the video was verified by the statements of PRCS, UN and Israeli army.

The Israeli military said in response to a request for comment about the video that the event on March 23, 2025, was under thorough examination.

"All claims, including the documentation circulating about the incident, will be thoroughly and deeply examined to understand the sequence of events and the handling of the situation," it said.

According to the International Red Cross Society, all communication was lost with their PRCS colleagues after their convoy was attacked in Rafah during the early morning hours of March 23.

On Sunday (March 30) rescuers recovered the bodies of 15 aid workers in Gaza, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said, bringing an end to a week-long search for the crew members who had gone missing after coming under heavy fire.

Officials from the Palestinian Red Crescent and the United Nations asserted that the emergency workers from the Red Cross, Red Crescent, U.N. and Palestinian Civil Emergency service were targeted by Israeli troops.

The Israeli military initially said it has opened an investigation into the incident, which by its account occurred when unmarked vehicles approached an Israeli position in the dark without lights or special markings and without previous coordination, factors it said had made the vehicles' advance appear suspicious.

The military said the soldiers who opened fire had killed a number of Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants who were travelling in vehicles marked with the Palestinian Red Crescent signs. - report from Reuters
